How One Person Can Save a Planet

By: Charlotte Trotter

As the climate is becoming more unpredictable, throughout the country, people are becoming more concerned with ways to help save our planet. Sibella Kraus has certainly completed her part in helping to reduce climate change by creating new ideas for the sufficiency of sustainable farming while becoming an activist for sustainable farming. Sibella Kraus is also president of SAGE, Sustainable Agriculture Education, which is a nonprofit organization that supports regional food systems. Yet, climate change is not her only reason to become a huge help for sustainable farming.
Sibella Kraus believes one's diet should look like a landscape. What she means by this is to carry a natural component about animals. Kraus explains that if one thinks of a landscape without natural and healthy animals, there would be no bees to produce honey, therefore no sweet nectar, and no natural delicious fruit. Our healthy, natural, and pleasant environment would not be the same without animals. Therefore, we should look at our diet with the same consideration, care, and preciseness as we do for our environment.
Over the past 30 years, SAGE has had the intention to develop agriculture and conservation resources within the area of Coyote Valley. The land has potential for the becoming a city in place of Coyote Valley located in San Jose. There are many challenges facing Sibella Kraus, SAGE, and the new development. The major parts of the valley have been bought by developers, therefore SAGE’s main challenge is putting the Coyote Valley lands back in the hands of people who would want to farm in the Valley instead of creating an unnatural city.
Sibella Kraus has achieved excellence throughout her time with SAGE and sustainable farming. But does Sibella Kraus have major plans for the future that includes the education of climate change and sustainable farming? Sibella Kraus has new leads and ideas involving SAGE including creating a more efficient policy front, public education front, financial front, and having sustainability incorporated in peoples everyday lives.
